Little BIPOC Book Fest

10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Children’s Writing Workshop: Robin Reagler, a poet, author, and former executive director of local nonprofit Writers in the Schools, will lead an exciting children’s workshop for children ages 7 and up. [Location: near the Pavilion]

10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Storytime with Jasminne Mendez: Dominican-American poet and author Jasminne Mendez will read her heartwarming, bilingual picturebook “Josefina’s Habichuelas,” an endearing story about a little girl who promises to give up sweets for Lent and in turn learns to make a prized dessert from her Dominican culture. 11:15-12 p.m.: Storytime with author Alda P. Dobbs: Author Alda P. Dobbs dives into the inspiration behind her book “Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna,” which was featured on the Texas Blue Bonnet Master List, and its follow-up “The Other Side of the River,” which publishes this September.  [Location: Fish Mouth]

12:10 p.m.-12:30 p.m.: Storytime with author Monica Eaton: Author and financial instructor Monica Eaton will take us on an exciting journey of budgeting, saving, and spending in “Money Plan,” a book that tackles children’s financial literacy with intriguing pictures and rhymes. [Location: Fish Mouth]

12:35 p.m.-1:10 p.m.: Poetry with WITS’ Teen Slam poets. A riveting performance by Writers in the School’s Meta-Four group. [Location: Fish Mouth]

1:15 p.m.-1:45 p.m.: Storytime and A Lesson on Literacy: Author and educator Tyrone Void reads from his “Bradley” children’s series, in which the main character is based on his son, followed by a discussion on the ways parents — particularly Dads — can play a larger role in reading immersion with their kids. [Location: Fish Mouth]
